FAQs

What does Krav Maga mean?

The literal translation from Hebrew to English is “contact combat” or “close combat.”

What are your hours?

We are open by phone and email Monday through Saturday, 8 am -7 pm. We have classes during those times listed on our schedule. If no one answers, leave a message as they are teaching a class. Someone will call you back soon.

How many classes can I take?

Most of our membership options come with UNLIMITED classes!

We suggest 2 to 3 classes per week for ideal progression, but you’re not limited to that. With so many class options to choose from, it’s easy to work them into your schedule.

What should I expect in a Krav Maga class?

We have separate classes for beginner, intermediate, and expert-level students. Although all courses are structured similarly, the material and intensity will vary.

The first thing you’ll notice when coming to a Krav Maga class is people like you. They are there for the same reasons you found Krav Maga. Because of that, no one judges and everyone is supportive from the start.

Classes are an “interval” style of training and last 60 minutes each.

Additional lessons or techniques: The previous pattern may be repeated multiple times. This depends on the complexity of the techniques given in that class.

About 10 minutes of warm-up: Calisthenics and other exercises pertinent to the movements you’ll be doing in class. The session is designed to get you to a light sweat in 10 minutes. It’s all self-paced. People stop and rest when they need to. Then, you will perform light stretching.

Instruction: This first instruction portion often revolves around the strikes you’ll need to know. These strikes go with the self-defense lesson you’ll be doing in that class.

Drill: This is elevated training on the first lesson. Again, it’s all self-paced but motivating!

Instruction: Another lesson, on a self-defense technique like a defense against a choke, bear-hug, punch, or another topic.

Drill: Beginning to put the lessons all together and work in some stress inoculation.

What should I wear to a Krav Maga Class?

Now that you’re ready to jump into a Krav Maga class, you should be aware of some guidelines. Since we don’t use uniforms or belts in the adult classes, here’s what you’ll need to wear.

We highly recommend wearing comfortable training clothes for Krav Maga classes. Training clothes include gym shorts, yoga pants, a baggy t-shirt, a sports bra, breathable socks, and more. Wear clothing that keeps you cool. This ensures you are comfortable and at your best when you train.
You want a solid pair of athletic shoes that will adequately support your feet. Do you have flat feet?

If so, you’ll want to consider a shoe that provides proper support. The right shoes will help you prevent injuries. A good pair of athletic shoes will keep your knees, ankles, feet, and back safe to ensure an injury-free workout.

What if I have no Martial Arts experience?

You don’t need any martial arts experience to start training in Krav Maga. Our instructors are great. They help everyone get started with the basics. They work to build up foundational skills.

Is there a belt system?
  • Although belts are not worn in class, there is a belt system in Krav Maga:
    Level 1 (Yellow Belt)
    Level 2 (Orange Belt)
    Level 3 (Green Belt)
    Level 4 (Blue Belt)
Level 5 (Brown and Black Belt)
How many people are in a class?

We keep our classes as small as possible. More importantly, our Instructors are excellent at getting the information and training to everyone. This ensures everyone is learning and progressing.

Our Training Centers do not have rows and rows of students per class. This is unlike some martial arts schools. The average class has only about 15-20 students. That number can vary. Once a class tends to draw 25 students regularly, we add more classes to the schedule to balance it out.

How do I advance to the next level in Krav Maga?
  • These timelines are only approximates and assume the member is training on average two to three times per week.

Yellow Belt Test – 4 months
    Orange Belt Test –6 months
Green Belt Test – 9 months
Blue Belt Test – 9 months
Brown Belt Test – 12 months
Black Belt Test – at least 12 months, and by invitation only

Once you have trained for the required time to advance, you will need to consult an instructor. Obtain their permission to test for the next belt level.

Does Krav Maga incorporate weapon defenses?

Yes, Krav Maga is world-renowned for its weapons defenses, including threats from edged weapons, blunt weapons, firearms, and improvised weapons.
